Cross Cultural Chairs Kazakhstan Workshop - the project unfolded during a two‑week workshop in Kazakhstan, where international designers teamed with local saddle‑makers to re‑imagine the saddle as a contemporary seat.

To plan the exhibition of Cross Cultural Chairs, we built a digital mock‑up of YURTA—a demountable pavilion sized to cradle the project’s five hybrid saddles. Raised lightly off the ground, YURTA flips the logic of the Kazakh nomadic dwelling inside‑out: a modular wooden frame smooths the yurt’s circular geometry, then disappears beneath a breathable PVC‑coated mesh membrane that filters dust and light. The skin reads as one continuous field, yet each panel is a repeatable module — easy to pack flat, ship, and rebuild wherever the conversation moves. By inverting the traditional felt interior to the outside, the pavilion foregrounds structure, turning construction itself into display. All elements slot together without heavy hardware, underscoring the nomad’s imperative: stay light, stay mobile.
